The Situation

Persnickety Prints is a custom photo printing and photo products brand founded around 2011, headquartered in Logan, Utah. The company specialises in high-quality photo prints, canvases, photo books, and holiday cards, targeting consumers who value colour accuracy and archival quality.

The business operates a pure DTC model via persnicketyprints.com with no significant Amazon or wholesale presence. As a made-to-order operation, there is no finished goods inventory risk. Production runs in-house at their Logan facility using professional wide-format inkjet printers with archival-quality paper stocks.

An in-house production operation with genuine quality and throughput issues. The problems were internal -- scheduling bottlenecks, reprint rates from quality failures, and carrier inefficiency were eroding margin and capacity.

  • Reprint rate at 3.5%
  • OTIF at 95%
  • Production scheduling bottlenecks
  • No formal yield tracking
  • Carrier mix not optimised for cost or speed

Our Role

Production operations improvement. We owned scheduling, yield tracking, and carrier optimisation.

  • Production scheduling system design and implementation
  • Yield tracking by job type and paper stock
  • Reprint root cause analysis
  • Carrier optimisation programme

Engagement

Production Operations Improvement

12 Months
  • Production scheduling system: reduced bottlenecks by sequencing jobs against machine capacity
  • Yield tracking: identified which job types and paper stocks drove the highest reprint rates
  • Carrier optimisation: renegotiated mix for cost and transit time
